Respect of the tradition for sharpening and polishing, entirely made by hand by our master sharpeners. An ancestral technique and the most meticulous, the convex sharpening Hamaguri is a succession of 7 sharpening angles for an extreme cutting edge combined with a great smoothness of cut.

Computer Aid Design

This software reproduces the hand digitized in 3 dimensions to simulate the specific constraints acting on the muscles and the tendons.

This program allows to create innovative designs in accordance with the daily technical gestures of hairdressers for an essential ergonomics of work.

The steels

Japanese steels are famous for their quality: an ancestral notoriety due to the elaboration of the famous katanas, sabers for the samurai whose edge was extreme and soft.

 Takai Technology works closely with the steel giant Nippon Steel to benefit from the most advanced alloys.

 The unit for measuring the hardness of steel is the Rockwell degree (HRC). It consists in determining the strength of the steel.

 This measurement is important for the lifetime of the cutting edge of a tool. But be careful a Rockwell degree should not be too low because the steel would be too soft and would give a blade of poor quality or too high at the risk of having a tool that would break at the slightest drop.

It should be noted that the average of the classic scissors is 50 degrees Rockwell.
The Takai Technology scissors have a Rockwell degree ranging from 59 to 65.

Takai uses 4 categories of steel for its models:

  • Summum Steel, Invitation to Excellence
  • Powdered steel, sintered HIP, the signature of high technology
  • Cobalt VG-10 superalloy steel, the fusion of knowledge
  • SUS 440C steel enriched with Vanadium and Molybdenum, uncompromising quality.


The machining of the blades

The Takai scissors have concave blades. They are dug inside

Advantages are :

  • A perfect crossing of the blades
  • Greater smoothness of cut, because the friction of the blades is reduced on 1 or 2 tenths of millimeters
  • Hair does not slip
  • Effective slicing techniques whatever the opening of the blades.


Hamaguri Sharpening

If the quality of the steel is imperative in the development of a pair of high-end scissors, the art of sharpening is another indispensable step.

This is the most delicate operation in the scissors manufacturing process.

The convex sharpening "Hamaguri" by Takai Technology is a succession of 7 sharpening angles.

Hamaguri is a very precise sharpening technique that requires many years of experience.

It is a very effective technique since the blade is rounded perfectly to the wire. Thus, the cutting edge of the blade is an integral part of the mass of the blade for greater rigidity.

Concave blades combined with Hamaguri convex sharpening greatly improve cutting performance: the cutting edge lasts longer and the ejection of the hair is facilitated.

At Takai, there is still another type of sharpening, which we have called, sharpening Miracle Slit. It only exists on the Summum model.

It is a Hamaguri sharpening with micro slots on the end of the blades.

Advantages are :

  • In straight section, the Miracle Slit allows to cut very thick locks, the micro slots retaining the hair.
  • In slender-slipped, the Miracle Slit works as a model with convex sharpening Hamaguri.
  • Softness and flexibility for efficient slicing
  • Increased sharpening life
